Ecetoc publishes guidance on assessment factors used to generate DNELs
The European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals (Ecetoc) has published Guidance on Assessment Factors to Derive a DNEL (Derived no-effect level) based on experience of using chapter eight of the European Chemicals Agency's (ECHA) Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment for REACH. Ecetoc says it is becoming clear that the recommended assessment factors used to estimate DNELs are generating levels that are extremely difficult to balance with exposure predictions, even for relatively data-rich chemicals submitted in the first tier of registrations. It predicts the problem will get worse for 2013 and 2018 substances. In addition, Ecetoc says in its review it believes not all assessment factors recommended in the ECHA Guidance are supported by the available scientific data. http://www.ecetoc.org/index.php?mact=MCSoap,cntnt01,details,0&cntnt01by_category=22&cntnt01order_by=date%20Desc&cntnt01template=display_list_v2&cntnt01display_template=display_details_v2&cntnt01document_id=3198&cntnt01returnid=59
